An interview with the world champion Fran Kapetan

Fran Kapetan does not need special introduction. We already know that he is the world champion in ju jitsu and we are all very proud of him. Tena Rakonca interviewed him about his experience in Greece. You can read it here.

 

Fran, could you explain the feeling of winning, what does it feel like to win in such a competition? Could you imagine it before the competition?

I could imagine it because I trained very hard. The feeling is great.

 Who was the easiest competitor and who was the hardest to beat?

The easiest one to beat was a competitor from the UAE, and the hardest one to beat was from Greece.

 How much did you spend training for this competition?

I had trainings 6 days a week for 2 months.

How many  competitors were at the championship?

There were about a thousand competitors at the championship.

How many competitors did you fight against?

I fought against 3 competitors and I had 4 fights.

 How long did you stay in Greece and where?

I was in Greece for 6 days, and I stayed at a hotel in Heraklion.

What was the food like in Greece?

I ate mostly at restaurants, I did not eat much Greek food. The food was good.

How long did you travel to Greece?

The first flight lasted for about 2 hours and 50 minutes, and the second flight lasted 50 minutes.

How long have you been training ju jitsu?

I’ve been training ju jitsu since I was 4.

What do you like about that?

I like training the Brazilian ju jitsu because I can learn new techniques, I can make new friendships and I can learn self defense.

Who is your role model in sports and in life?

In sports my idol is Davor Počijak, my first trainer, but in life it’s my uncle, Ivan Vuković.
